Net Worth Calculator
Add up what you own and subtract what you owe to get your net worth, see the liquid part you could reach quickly, and compare against the median for your age from Federal Reserve data.
Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. It is the single number that tells you whether your finances are moving the right way, and it is worth tracking quarterly. Enter rough figures; precision matters less than consistency over time.

What to count
Assets at what they would sell for today: cash, brokerage and retirement balances, your home at a realistic value, vehicles at resale value. Debts at their current payoff balance. Leave out things you could not sell (pensions you have not started drawing, furniture) unless you track them consistently.
The benchmark
Medians come from the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances (2022, in 2022 dollars): historical median family net worth was $39,000 under 35, $135,600 at 35-44, $247,200 at 45-54, $364,500 at 55-64 and $409,900 at 65-74. These historical household figures are not adjusted to today's dollars and are not a personal target. See the Federal Reserve SCF data.
How to use the number
Track it quarterly and watch the direction, not the level. The two things that move it fastest are paying down high-interest debt and raising your retirement contribution rate; the debt payoff and 401(k) calculators show each.
